To Market, To Market Riverdale, June 11, 2013

It is not just for the produce that we like to go to Riverdale Farmers' Market. It is also for the walk from the bus stop to the market when we can peer over the fences and into the gardens. In mid-June, these gardens are in their glory.

On the other hand, on this particular Tuesday, the market itself is not so glorious.  In anticipation of rain that never materialized, many vendors have failed to show. The purpose of this trip was to find rhubarb.  Fortunately, Christine Jurjans of Trillium Organic Farm not only ignored the threat of rain but came laden with slender stalks of rosy rhubarb.  The always reliable St. John's Bakery has their usual broad selection of breads plus jam-filled brioche rolls. Always a sucker for fresh-from-the-farm eggs, we get a dozen of Murray's multi-hued eggs laid by his flock of heritage breed hens.

The treat of the day is a serving of the St.Louis ribs with potato salad from When the Pig Came Home Smokehouse & Larder.  Meaty, smokey, and sticky, the three ribs made a great lunch.  We will be back for more.
